R.I.F.
I'm probably the only one on the face of the planet that remembers RIF: Reading Is Fundamental. It was an old PSA campaign that would air on Saturday mornings between Captain Caveman and The Smurfs. The commercials would usually feature a whiny, illiterate 10 year old complaining that reading sucked. By the end of the 30 second spot, Robert Loggia or Telly Sevales (sp?) or some other C-tier celebrity would have convinced the brat that reading was the bees-knees. Tagline: R.I.F., Reading is fundamental!
Hey, look what I found:
Anyway, this came across my desk this AM:
Hello!
You are invited to the annual RCC Friends of the Library Book Sale.
Where: RWC Student Lounge
When: April 15 & 16
What do we have this year?
We've got hardbacks for a dollar each.
We've got paperbacks for only fifty cents each - fifty cents!
We've got audiobooks and brand new releases starting at $2.00 each.
We've also got a 50/50 raffle - half of the money raised by the raffle goes to the RCC Friends of the Library, and the other half goes to the lucky winner! The raffle ends on May 22 (right before Boatnik weekend, hint hint), when we draw one winning ticket... and it could be yours! But you can't win if you don't buy a ticket!
Wow!
All proceeds from the booksale go to the RCC Friends of the Library, which supports library improvement. Most of the funds raised by RCC Friends of the Library are used to purchase books and other materials that would not otherwise be available in the college library. The RCC Friends of the Library also buy books each Christmas for children in the community.
So come on down to the RWC student lounge on April 15 or 16, maybe buy a book, have a chat with your friendly library staff, or just come by to say hello.
Hope to see you there!
