Deck the Halls!

Redwood campus is getting into the Holiday spirit!

Monday afternoon we blew the dust off of the totes containing the decorations, and set to work!

With the help of a few willing hands that were hanging around, we decorated a tree (donated by Tracy Olsen-Oliver), put up some stockings, and put up some other miscellaneous decorations.

The Ping-Pong Tourney!

Heya folks!

Did you know that Redwood Campus just had a ping pong tournament? The event took place in the Student Center on Tuesday, December 2nd. For those who participated (including Yours Truly), it was a lot of fun, and some of the spectators seemed to be enjoying themselves, as well. Or maybe they were just enjoying the free snacks!

The prize was a $15 gift certificate to Animal House.

With food and fun, the activities Student Government has been putting on are there for you enjoyment! So heads up, 'cause the next one is just around the corner!

Open Mic Day

Well the Open mic day for the month of November was a lot of fun! And guess what? This month's open mic day is right around the corner! On Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, we'll have the second monthly open mic day, and hopin' to have a good turnout!

So if you want to have some fun either watching or participating, be there between 12 and 3! Below, I'm posting a video with a few short clips from last month's event, and in the posting below this one is a longer video from the Star Wars cliff notes act. Take a look!

Miracle on 34^th Street, by Valentine Davies, is the classic holiday story of Kris Kringle having to prove that he is who he says he is and igniting a spark in the hearts of many people along the way. Directed by Bobbi Kidder, with Ed Gangner as Kris Kringle, our RCC/Impact Theatre production opens Thanksgiving Friday with the “Cuppa Jo and a Show” $5.00 show at 8 pm.

The rest of the performances are $15 General admission and $7 for students. November 29, December 4, 5, and 6 begin at 8 pm; November 30 and December 7 are matinees, beginning at 2 pm.

As far as I can see, this is a win-win situation! You have a chance to support RCC's Theater Arts, as well as going to a great holiday show to kick off the season! Hope to see you there!

Study Abroad!

You may have seen the fliers around campus talking about the study abroad program. Just in case you haven't, I'm here to let you know!

I don't know about you, but to me it would be pretty cool to be able to go out of the country for a while and see things (like the Parthenon here) that you normally only see in other people's pictures. Why not get one with you in it?!

With destinations like Italy, France, and Mexico, what have you got to lose? If you want to check it out, be in the Student Center on Wednesday, November 19th from 2-3 p.m.

Have you ever seen the TV show "America's Got Talent?" It's a lot like American Idol, except there's a lot more than just singers on there; it's a center-stage spot for people who do well in anything from dancing to magic acts.

If you have seen it, you know that there's a lot of untapped possibility with everyday people across the country. Even right here in GP, there are people with some pretty awesome skills.

Wanna See?

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 5th, ASGRCC will be hosting an open mic day in the Student Center. So what is it that you like to do? Whether it's singing, dancing, reading poetry, playing an instrument, doing magic tricks or whatever else floats your boat, the mic is yours from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

This will be a monthly event, every first Wednesday of every month. Come strut your stuff, or just watch. The time is yours.

Should I say it? Ah, what the heck... Hey there boys and Ghouls!

Okay, okay, it's outta my system, and I'm sure you're all glad! Hey, there's a picture of a jack o' lantern on here, and its not just 'cause I like halloween!

Whether you're in Grants Pass or in Medford, Student Government has put together some fun for you to enjoy on Halloween this year.

In Medford, RCC has teamed up with the Heart of Medford to provide trick or treat-ing and a lost and found children center on campus, and provides a base for families as the kids trick or treat in downtown medford. This event will be happening from 3-7 pm on Friday, Oct. 31st.

Feeling artistic, goofy, or want to throw out something just plain creepy? RVC will be hosting a pumpkin and cookie decorating contest! If you wish to enter a pumpkin and/or some cookies, please take your entry to G-128 from the hours of 4-6 pm.

If you would like your pumpkin or cookie back, please pick it up between 6 and 7. Winners of the contests will be announced on Monday, November 3rd.

On Redwood campus in Grants Pass, Student Government has also planned a pumpkin-decorating contest, with the option to make your own on the spot! If you wish to have a carved pumpkin, please bring your prepared pumpkin in to school with you. But, if you want to do a painted pumpkin, you can either make your own at home, or use a pumpkin and paint provided for you and paint one on campus!

PLEASE NOTE - Since attendance is a little scarce on Fridays around Redwood campus, the contest will be happening on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30th. The event will be going from noon until 2:00 in the afternoon, with judging happening around 1:45. Wait, there's something in this for you! Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place winners in each category - painted and carved.

So wherever you live, make sure to head down to RCC this week for a little Halloween fun!

Takin' Care of Business

I apologize up front for the gratuitous BTO, but I couldn't help my dang self--Rogue is Taking Care of Business, man! After a lot of Blood, Sweat and Tears, Earth, Wind and Fire aligned to give a much needed shot in the arm to the Rogue presence in Cave Junction. Yours Truly was Johnny On The Spot and captured the ebullience. BTW, I really have no idea what ebullience means, but it seems like it should work here.

So go check it out. Oh, and while you're out there, you may want to pick up a Louisiana Hot at Taylor's. They hurt so good...

So, as you're well aware, ain't a whole lotta schoolin' going on right now. But you wouldn't believe all the stuff that happens around this joint when nothing's happening. All the folks who keep the place functioning and looking good are running all over sprucing up the place. No less than a zillion Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have bubbled up from nowhere and have overtaken the Grants Pass campus like South American fire ants. A ton of folks are busy typing away and getting organized for the summer/fall onslaught. It's quiet around here, all right, but it's the kind of quiet that comes in the eye of a storm. So bring it on! We'll be ready.

Construction Junction, What's Your Function?

Well, let me tell you what your function is: it's to edumucate chicks and dudes about all the career opportunities in the field.

I gotta tell ya, Yours Truly tagged along on the Construction Technology installment of Rogue's bi-annual (or so) industry tours and I accidentally learned a whole bunch. It wasn't really my intention; it just sort of happened, and you know what? It was cool. Regrettably, I only got to see one project, so keep in mind the clip below only represents one quarter of the construction sites Rogue visited this year. A big, fat wad of students from schools in Jackson and Josephine county got to tour the South Medford Interchange Project, The Rogue Valley International (ha!) Airport Expansion Project, The Riverside Lodge remodel, and the Grants Pass Public Works Building Project. If you missed this one, stay tuned. I hear that there are possibly more to come. We all know that politics can be a dirty, vile exchange of mudslinging, name-calling, finger-pointing, and blame-placing. That said, I have never before witnessed this brand of filth. The following is not for the delicate. Be forewarned. Earmuffs!

That scandalous bit of politicking seared the collective conscious of a group of impressionable teenagers and stunned them into a punch-drunk stupor. Twenty-four hours later, I received this text message:

"Robert Bell has been chosen by the students of RCC to be the student-body president of ASG-RWC for the 2008-2009 school year."

The unthinkable had happened: democracy failed. A tyrant rose to power. Again, children should not be permitted to view the following video, but I feel a journalistic obligation to remove myself from betwixt the public and the truth. Immediately following his ascension to the Rogue throne, Mr. Robert Bell began to show his true colors and revealed exactly how he intends to subdue his new kingdom--by physically beating each and every student into submission. Be aware, the clip is totally uncensored:

Bill Clinton at Rogue

Well, well, well. If you ever suspected former President Mr. William Jefferson Clinton was a bit of a Rogue, it turns out you may be right--at least in the RCC sense of the word. The First Lady? hopeful will be touching down at Rogue Community College tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon. The event will be held in the Rogue Bowl on our Grants Pass campous and is free and open to the public. So, if you want to brush up against greatness (ahem), be there or be, um, Republican.
